Abstract: The market segmentation of agricultural products circulation hinders the smooth flow of agricultural products a鄄
mong regions, resulting in mistaken allocation of agricultural resources and loss of efficiency, which is not conducive to the price
stability of agricultural products and the sustained growth of farmers蒺 income. Using the provincial panel data of China during the
years from 2003 to 2016, this paper empirically examines the impact of transportation infrastructure and the scale of circulation
organizations on the segmentation of agricultural products circulation market. The research shows that: (1) the market segmenta鄄
tion of domestic agricultural products circulation has not shown a convergence trend; (2) both the highway and the scale of circu鄄
lation organization have a significant negative impact on the market segmentation of agricultural products circulation; and (3) un鄄
like previous studies that have shown that expressways hinder the circulation of agricultural products, expressways as “aortas冶
and rural road as “capillaries冶 are actually conducive to promoting the market integration of agricultural products circulation, but
high tolls like “infarction冶 in the “aorta冶 weaken the role of expressways in promoting circulation of agricultural products. Ac鄄
cordingly, strengthening highway construction including rural road and expressway, implementing the policy of “GSP冶 for reduc鄄
ing and exempting the expressway toll of agricultural products, and supporting circulation enterprises to become bigger and stron鄄
ger are the key to improving the circulation efficiency of agricultural products and promoting the integration of agricultural products
market.
