In the complex and volatile context from 2007 to 2012, several changes characterize the performance of China’s merchandising businesses. First, the performance begins to rise after a period of decrease. Second, the high-quality merchandising businesses have the strongest anti-crisis capacity while the middle-quality ones suffer from the worst anti-crisis capacity. Third, based on the average industrial performance, six industries are ranked from high to low as follows: petroleum and petrochemical industry, commercial retail, industry of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, communication and transportation, textile and apparel, and catering tourism, but the performance is ranked from high to low in financial crisis period as the following: petroleum and petrochemical industry, commercial retail, communication and transportation, textile and apparel, industry of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, and catering tourism. Fourth, industries like catering tourism, communication and transportation, and textile and apparel are most affected by the financial crisis while commercial retail and petroleum and petrochemical industry are least affected; from 2010 to 2012, commercial retail benefits more while communication and transportation and catering tourism benefit less; in 2012, commercial retail has the best performance and catering tourism has the worst performance. |
